We are all guilty of letting good food go bad. Whether we are Foodies or culinary Luddites, it matters not; we've all had the experience of waiting a little too long to enjoy some sort of food. Despite my adoration for all things cheesy, I will admit that I have left cheese in my fridge until it became either as hard as a rock or a fuzzy and soft. But this wasn't always because I'd left it for too long. If I'd taken just a few preventative steps, I could have saved my self a lot of money and enjoyed a lot more cheese!
Our cheese experts have some great tips on how to best store cheese so it will last much longer. Did you know that, ideally, cheese should be taken out of its original wrapper and re-wrapped in plastic wrap and placed in an airtight plastic bag? (I'll admit I didn't.) You can dramatically extend the freshness of your cheese this way.
Or, if you're really, really passionate about cheese (and you miss the Sharper Image), you can take a page from the Brits and get a climate-controlled "cheese cabinet". The Fromagair will automatically maintain the perfect temperature and humidity for your favorite cheeses. I think I can stick with plastic wrap!
