There's been lots in the news about the benefits of Vitamin D for women, and we all know that Vitamin D helps us absorb calcium better and maintains bone health. But did you know that Vitamin D may help prevent dementia as we get older? Science Daily recently reported on the results of a large-scale study completed by the University of Cambridge (UK) and the University of Michigan. Upon surveying over 2,000 people aged 65+, they discovered that there is a correlation between levels of Vitamin D and cognitive function:
The study found that as levels of Vitamin D went down, levels of cognitive impairment went up. Compared to those with optimum levels of Vitamin D, those with the lowest levels were more than twice as likely to be cognitively impaired.Definitely food for thought.
